Route 66 from Albuquerque to Los Angeles by motorcycle with Eagle Rider – May / June 2025
In 2025 I had the opportunity to make the trip of a lifetime: go to America and travel the Route 66 riding the most iconic motorcycle for a truly on the road experience, the Harley Davidson. I booked through the Italian agency that organizes motorcycle trips in America and is hooked up to the Eagle Rider world circuit, the “Otherwise on the Road” in Verona. Kind and expert guided me in organizing the trip with reservations, documents, suggestions, information and everything that may be needed for such a trip. Of course, this trip can also be organized by yourself, skipping an Italian intermediary and directly accessing Eagle Rider, which however does not manage flights; you can also skip the guide and make the trip independently, renting the motorcycles on the spot or before leaving. But I had to leave Italy alone, without any experience of intercontinental travel, so I wanted the guarantee of a wide range of support and a charterer with proven experience. Eagle Rider guaranteed this, first on paper and then in fact on the spot: it is an agency that organizes motorcycle trips around the world, with dozens and dozens of itineraries, both on Harley Davidson and on other types of motorcycles, with or without a guide/accompany. And so once all the bureaucratic procedures are done, including documents, VISA/ESTA, various payments, purchase of suitcase with TSA padlock, I’m OFF!
I’ve always dreamed of going to America, my generation was that of “California Dreamin'” by The Mamas & the Papas, by Scott McKenzie who sang “San Francisco” (… be sure to wear some flowers in your hair). I read the book “On the Road” by Jack Kerouac as an adult, so as a boy I knew little about the adventures on American roads. But I was struck by some films, including: Steven Spielberg’s first film, “Duel” (1971); “American Graffiti” by George Lucas (1973); “Zabriskie Point” by Antonioni just to name a few. A year later I started writing this “diary”, it is not just a story for others but a way to personally remember the lived experience. No claim to be a travel guide or a blog, there are countless on the net. The published images are just some of the hundreds of photos taken, I used a Nikon Z5 with a 24-120 f/4 lens. They are protected by copyright but can be downloaded and used, but citing the author. Using the mobile phone you get good photos and you travel lighter, I am a passionate amateur photographer and I wanted to combine photography with travel. Obviously, since I am part of a Chapter HOG, I proudly wore the colors (the vest with patches) of the Club “PWR UP Salerno Chapter Italy” throughout the trip.
